This page showcases photographs I took in the past, with many of the images captured between the late ’70s and ’90s. This is Charley Wirz. One of the founders for Greater Southwest Guitar Show, the first of its kind and started it all. I first visited him in Dallas in 1979. He took me under his wings right away and opened a door for me to the world of tone. He was also a person who introduced me to Stevie Ray Vaughan. This photo was taken at the back of his shop where repairs took place. He was working on a Les Paul Jr.. One afternoon in mid 80s at Charley’s house in Dallas TX. John Clardy came to see us bringing in his bursts. 5 bursts and 1 Custom gathered. Charley’s Guitar Shop at original location in mid 80’s. The shop is at the end on right. It was located on the corner of Harry Hines and Royal Lane. I believe current location is only a few minutes away. Here, Charley holds 2 newly acquired (back then. Probably around 84) ‘Bursts in his backyard. Charley’s guitar shop back room where repairs took place. I believe the person here was Rene’s assistant back then. You see a bit of the shop front through the door. It must be Rene’s back showing on the right. Finally found Rene’s picture. It looks he is polishing a finish on guitar body. Rene is widely known as Stevie Ray’s guitar tech, after worked as a repairman at Charley’s, but not too many people know he is also a great flamenco guitar player. Van Wilks on his long time main squeeze, 68 Custom. Anson Funderburgh and Rockets performing at Poor Davids’ Dallas TX. Anson is not in the picture because he got me sit in (far left)! OK, Here’s Anson. I believe his Strat was 55…really gutsy tone…I believe his amp was blackface Super Reverb. Stratoblasters then led by Bugs Henderson. Bugs was big hearted. Unused Greater Southwest Guitar Show pass 1984. It was 7th show. The venue this year was The Wintergarden. There was one more show at that same location probably following year. Pete Alenov at one of the guitar shows. He was a great friend of ours. I visited his shop in St. Paul, he visited our place (workshop building guitars) in Japan. —Ok, Pete. Lunch is over. Time to go hunting again! I lived in London back in the 70’s. I heard about this great event (just check out the lineup!) Knebworth Fair so I went. I remember 10cc coming out to stage really late, but really loved the song “I’m not in love”. Back cover shows where and when. It was held at Knebworth Park, Stevenage, Hertfordshire. 8/21/76.
